Code Of Conduct

To help all Wing members and prospective members understand the cultural and operational norms of Virtual Carrier Air Wing EIGHT, the following Code of Conduct was established. The articles below can be summarized in two maxims:

Fly Where You Have The Most Fun

Above All, Respect

  • It is expected that all members of Virtual Carrier Air Wing EIGHT will treat all each other with respect, at all times. There is always a place for good-natured ribbing in the ready room, but members must take care to think twice before posting or speaking out of anger, frustration, or mean-spiritedness. Personal attacks are never justified. Fair warning will be provided to members who display behavior or communication deemed disrespectful or toxic towards other members. Wing leadership retains the right to dismiss any member, at any time, and for any reason – but will not do so without cause, nor without first communicating with the offending member.

  • Virtual CVW-8 strives to present military simulation of a U.S. Naval carrier air wing within the DCS World environment. To help create the highest level of immersion and realism, flights within the official Virtual CVW-8 FRTP and Deployment servers are to be conducted from a cold start condition and the flight plan should return the aircraft to its original location, unless part of a CVW-8 fly-on or fly-off. It is understood that there will be times that pop-up real world requirements preclude the completion of a planned flight. Of course, flights conducted with Wing members in non-official servers may be conducted in whatever manner is briefed to satisfy the training objectives (including the valid training objective of just goofing around!)

  • Virtual Carrier Air Wing EIGHT benefits from the personal knowledge and experience of active and retired Naval Aviators and Naval Flight Officers with decades of real-world flight operations experience in the carrier environment. While the Wing uses open-source publications to help inform its Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs), the final word on standardization rests with individuals who flew these aircraft for a living. While there is always room for discussion and questions are always welcome, members must be at peace with the fact that Virtual CVW-8 may not change the way it does business basis based on their ideas, desires, or personal experience.

  • Virtual Carrier Air Wing EIGHT is a SOP and TTP-driven organization that strives to establish a standard that all members may learn and execute. This method is not used because it is restrictive, but rather because it is realistic, allows all members of the Wing to learn what is expected of one other in the combat environment, and helps us execute more effectively as a team. Additionally, pilots should understand and welcome the fact that departures from SOP and TTP will be constructively debriefed following flight events to help all members of CVW-8 become more proficient in mission execution. These debriefs foster a culture of learning here at Virtual CVW-8 which is a defining feature of our brand of military simulation.
